You are My Home

My very first mood board challenge over at Life.Paper.Scrapbook!  CLICK HERE to see the entire reveal.  This is an awesome board and you can take whatever inspiration from it that you want to create your layout.  We also have a great sponsor for this challenge...Scrappy Canary (formerly Polly Scrap! Kits)!  Scrappy Canary is Australia's premier crafting kit club, offering monthly Scrapbook, Pocket Life and Embellishment kits. Their kits offer a handpicked selection of the latest papers, embellishments and exclusive items all coordinated and shipped direct to your door. In addition to kits, their store also stocks other coordinating embellishments for those who love extra goodies to play with. CLICK HERE to check them out!

And here is the mood board that inspired it.  I loved the colors, and I loved the "Home" elements.  I put a little twist on it and instead of scrapping my actual physical home, I scrapped my metaphoric home...my fabulous hubby and daughter.

I started with a watercolor background colors in a softer tone of the ones in the mood board. Looking around our house and considering what makes our home a "home," I found myself drawn to the huge photo wall we have in our living room.  The photos of my family are definitely a part of what makes our house a home.  That is how the doodled picture frame idea came to be.  I've seen some doodled frame on pinterest and loved the idea, but they never seemed to fit with what I was working on.  This time they did! Woot woot! :)

Lots of vellum ephemera on this layout, and I added some pen doodles to alot of that as well so it would contrast against the soft watercolor.  There's Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper, Basic Gray, and Heidi Swapp all mixed in there.

I also cut a couple of squares of vellum and made little pockets to fill the side frames, stuffed with sequins and hole-punched hearts in various sizes.  I need a sewing machine in a bad way...I would have loved to stitch the pockets but didn't want to go through the agony of handstitching so I just hot glued them.

Come be inspired by this month's mood board and take advantage of the chance to win an awesome prize from this month's sponsor!

35.75...

So when I got my Citrus Twist goodies this month (Picture Perfect main and Enchantment add on), I was totally in LOVE with the colors...and they go perfectly with this month's mood board over at Life.Paper.Scrapbook.  Been awhile since I've had the time to play along with one of their challenges so I was excited to put this layout together.  Here's the mood board:

And here's my layout.  I was inspired by the triangle shape of the trees, the colors, and the brush script and what it said.  Something that is important to me, is me.  Obviously what is most important to me is my family, but without taking care of me, I can't give my best to them.  The story behind this photo is a fun one, and I will eventually tape the story to the  back of the page.  I won a "Super Mom" photo shoot by the talented Alexis Emm Photograffi and we had a blast breaking the rules, and getting some awesome shots...we may or may not have squeezed through the fence of a closed train station and hopped the train to get this photo.  ;-)  Shhhh....

I didn't go crazy on background work or any mixed media for this one, because the papers had so much going on, and I didn't want the end result to be too busy.

I loved the chalk board background paper from We R Memory Keepers and added a chalk circle around the photo area by tracing around a large bowl.  The little arrows are a fab cheap find for $2 at Michaels.

One of my favorite simple techniques is to line edges with word stamps and I have about a million of them from CTK.  These ones were perfect.  The mistable Heidi Swapp heart was covered with gelato and the large words (celebrate and enjoy) are also Heidi Swapp.

I used my butterfly punch to punch some small butterflies out of the text paper and popped them up on the page.

Come check out the mood board at Life.Paper.Scrapbook. and link up your creations!  Thanks for stopping by!

Tiny Dancer

Anybody out there experienced in watercolors?  If so, I'd love some pointers, tips and tricks, please and thank you!  This was my first real go-round with them and I'm hooked. I've diluted my mists a couple of times, and worked with watered down acrylics here and there, but watercolors are so different. And sooo soft and lovely.  This month's color sketch at life.paper.scrapbook provided the inspiration for this layout.  Hope you enjoy!

This is Bliss

Good morning!  Sharing a layout today based on this sketch at Life.Paper.Scrapbook.  When I saw the sketch I knew exactly what photos to use...this is the third time I have attempted to scrap this trio of photos of my daughter on her first carnival ride.  Previously, I had attempted several bold primary color schemes, but nothing quite fit.  However, the papers in my June Citrus Twist kit proved to be perfect, with a slightly softer edge that better complimented the photos. Thank you for stopping by and visiting!

The chipboard frame was a lighter blue so I misted it with Heidi Swapp Color Mist
to give it some sparkle and a deeper blue
