Me (Currently) - New Challenge at Challenge YOUrself!

Good morning!!  We have an all new challenge for you this month over at Challenge YOUrself!  And a fabulous prize for one lucky winner...all you have to do is create and link up!  CLICK HERE to see what the rest of the talented design team has created!

Here's the challenge:

Challenge Yourself #5:  Something Trendy!
Put those scrapbooking trends to work on your page!  Use a minimum of THREE trendy things on your layout.  List your items.  Don't forget to include a photo of YOU in your layout.

Be brave and get the courage to try something new!
Have fun with this challenge.

And for this month's prize, we have a fabulous 12x12 Hey Kid by Pink Paislee Kre8v Kit!

Here is my layout.  I'm giggling because this WAS me...a couple of week's ago.  Since then, I've chopped all my hair off...so it's not exactly ME, currently.  Anyway, I had fun thinking about all of the trendy things I have seen in papercrafting this past year and for my page, I chose my good old Heidi Swapp mists in Blush, Chartreuse and Teal, washi tape, flair buttons, wooden elements, thread, and a feather, just for good measure. ;-)

I always find myself pulling out word and phrase stamps that come in my Citrus Twist Kits each month...they're so perfect for layering up around photos or, in this case, for becoming an element all on their own.  The "Simple Things" flair button is Recollections, as are the wooden frames (I cut the ones on the left and right side of the page in half).

Another staple in my stash are the cheap and useful Recollections white 4x4 frames.  They're about $2 for a pack of 6 at Michael's and I use them All.The.Time.

The little feather is leftover from an older Studio Calico ephemera pack I had, and the letters are Recollections as well. (Michael's is stepping up its scrappy game, eh?) ;-)

And finally here's a side view to show some of the dimension.

I hope you will come play along with us!  Remember, you have a full month to put your layout together and link it on the blog.  See you soon!

xoxo,

Shawna

3 Kisses

Seriously.  Does a color scheme get any more gorgeous than this?  This week's CSI case file is just so pleasing to the eye that no matter what you create from it, it's pretty much guaranteed to be gorgeous.  These are some of my favorite colors right now - from fashion to decor - so I couldn't wait to get going on this layout.  Thanks for stopping by!

For the chevron, I used my Heidi Swapp chevron mask and brushed on molding paste, misted with mint green  Color Shine.  It was a bit deeper than the seafoam green I was going for, so I went over it with some quick dry white fluid chalk ink.

I wanted to add some sort of pattern to the chevron to mix it up a bit so I took a random background polka dot stamp I had and impressed some dots into the molding paste.

Well, lookie there.  The doilies made another appearance (contrary to my declaration of never using them again.  Hey - they make a great paint palette.  hee hee.  (And you will note I actually used them as a real embellishment in the upper left corner of the layout...I'll eat my words...they're not as bad as I thought.  Still don't see my self using them all that frequently though.  This was a momentary lapse in reason. ;-)  Anywhoooooo!  For my title took some Thickers and painted them pink to match the flowers.

I layered stamp and masking in the background using the random polka dot background stamp, with varying pressure and amounts of ink, and then overlapped the polka dots with some Kraft colored chevron masking.

The camera and smile were the ends of a journaling card that I cut.  Saved the middle journaling piece for later use.  Then I added some gold liquid pearls for detail.

This is my favorite part of the layout.  Love the way the colors all blend together in this quadrant.  I added some extra glitter to the white flowers, and twisted a silver piece of twine to pull it together.

Ran a peach piece of something or another with pearls running through it.  I think it looks really pretty...or you could look at it and see a garter.  Let's not go there.  It's pretty.  Shush.

CSI Case File #71...Guess How Much I Love You?

Another fabulous challenge this week over at CSI!  The color scheme was perfection...one of my faves!  So how did I end up with a layout that that is way overdone and has smeared stars?  No idea.  I was going with an evening moon theme, but sometimes the creative process goes awry and this happens.  No matter though...I scrapped some great pictures, and documented one of me and my daughter's favorite books.  So, all in all it's still a scrappy success.  Happy scrapping!

Here is the challenge:

And here is my take on it:

I created the gray background by mixing some white gesso with black acrylic to get a rich gray.

A couple of our favorite lines from the children's book "Guess How Much I Love You?"

Loving these Recollections wooden house embellies!  Note: Paint and Heidi Swapp masks don't mix...hence the smeared stars.  Oh well...live and learn! :-)
