My 1st DT Reveal for Sketchabilities!

So excited that this day has finally arrived!  I am so proud to be a member of the fabulous design team at Sketchabilities and am looking forward to challenging myself and growing as a crafter through these amazing sketches.  Today I am sharing Sketch #109 and my take on it.  I am finding, already, that these sketches are a challenge to me and I am thankful for that challenge!  Here is the sketch.  You have 2 weeks to upload your take on it to the Sketchabilities blog for a chance to win some fabulous prizes from this month's sponsor, Chapel Road Stamps.

Here is my take on it.  I thought it was a perfect chance to showcase the little lady's stint as Rapunzel this past Halloween. :)  Lots of background work here.  First I muted the background patterened paper hue by putting a diluted layer of gesso over it.  Then I used my Tim Holtz stamps to add some brown text stamping.  Then I used a script stencil and modeling paste to add some more lettering, which I then painted over with some diluted purple gelatos.  While I am not much of a vintage scrapper, I am really happy with the fairytale vibe of this layout.  Thank you for having a look!  I hope to see you play along with us at Sketchabilities this month!

xoxo,

Shawna

DT Reveal - AAG Lots of Flowers Challenge

Is it Monday already?  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are enjoying the cooler fall weather!  We filled our weekend with fall-themed events and I can't wait until the work week is over so we can do it again!
Today's layout is for About a Girl's mid-month challenge.  The challenge is to use lots of flowers.  Sounds easy, right?  Well, if you are like me and don't often use flowers, it truly is a challenge.  However, I have a handful of photos from my daughter's ballet recital that are perfect for a flowery layout, so those were the ones I chose to scrap for this page.  I used a mixture of gesso, mists, gelatos, and modeling paste to create the background and color the patterned paper and doilies.  Then I added some perfect pearls and mists to the flowers and layered some tulle behind the patterned paper under the photo.  A very foo-foo, flowery layout perfect for my little ballerina. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Hey all!  Happy September!  For many of us, that means back to school time for the kiddos and plenty of scrapping inspiration online.  Case and point.  This week's CSI challenge.  Gorgeous colors perfect for fall, and of course perfect for those back to school photos!  Scrapfriends has a great sketch challenge this month as well, and I used that as the framework for the layout.  Here's the sketch and the Case File:

And here is my layout featuring our big girl on her first day of school this year.  Happy September everyone!

Doilies aren't just for tables...who knew. ;-)

It's time for the June 1st challenge at About a Girl!  The first challenge this month is to create a layout using doilies.  I will be the first to admit...I'm not comfortable scrapping vintage, and I've never used a doily on a layout before in my life.  BUT I have to admit that the doilies worked to pull the colors from my daughter's blankie into this layout.  All in all, a scrappy success.  Stop over and visit us at AAG, check out my fellow Design Team members' take on this challenge, and play along!   Happy scrapping!

Love Always

For this week's CSI case file I went vintage.  This is not a comfortable scrapping style for me, and I always struggle with it.  But this file and photo felt like it needed a vintage layout, so I went for it.  Here is this week's color scheme:

And here's my take on it. (I used this sketch from the Scrapfriends Sketch Challenge #13 as inspiration) Thanks for looking!

Pulled out the bloomers again and a Heidi Swapp title word for the "Love"; handwrote a letter to my daughter and wrapped it in a scroll that I distressed with various Tim Holtz distressing inks.

Little birdie from my Citrus Twist kit, and I went outside and grabbed some twigs for it to perch on.

More Citrus Twist embellies, and a Little Yellow Bicycle word pin.  Bark from a tree in our yard to anchor the photo.
