Look Ma!

Playing along with Scrap Around the World this month and was thrilled to see the gold in this month's mood board.  My Citrus Twist kit this month was filled with hues of gold just perfect for the board. Here's my layout of the little lady's first horseback riding lesson.  She asked me before we went if they were going to let her ride no-hands, and of course I said "I'm sure they will not!"  Well, I stand corrected...apparently no hands is a great way to learn to balance and sit straight in your saddle.  I love these photos...horses are so majestic and it's beautiful to see my daughter's love for them and her bravery when it comes to leading and riding.

I took these photos on my phone, so they didn't print very well due to the low pixels, so I printed most of them fairly small which worked out nicely, because I don't often manage to squeeze multiple photos onto one layout.

And here is the beautiful mood board that inspired the layout.  I was mainly inspired by the gold and the doilies.

I've had these glittery thickers in my stash for awhile now, and haven't managed to work them into a page.  I pulled them in through the navy in my daughter's sweater and her instructor's jacket.

This fabulous horse came from a Studio Calico chippie set, and there are gold doilies peeking out from under the photos.

I love all of the phrase stamps that come each month from Citrus Twist.  No matter what sentiment I am looking for, there is sure to be a stamp that says what I want it to say.  The folder and card that I stamped on are from Basic Grey.

I handstitched a bit over the honeycomb gold flecked vellum paper, and went over some of the white chevron with a mask and some modeling paste to give it a little bit of added texture in the background.

And there you have it!  Hope you are all having a fabulous weekend.  I'm getting back outside today to get the compost and dirt into my garden beds and hope to plant tomorrow!  Gardening is one of my favorite things to do and I can't wait to see how things grow this summer!  See you later!

Waiting

Good morning and happy Saturday!  Sharing a layout today that I created for Scrap Around The World's March mood board challenge. CLICK HERE to see the design team inspiration! My quest to conquer mixed media continues. :-)

Here is the mood board:

And here is my layout (sorry - had a heck of a time getting the reflection off the photo...this is why I hate working with glossy photos!):

I started this layout much like my last mixed media attempt, using the techniques Sanna Lippert used in her art journal tutorial.  You can see the tutorial and my attempt at it HERE.  Lots of scraps laid down and secured with Mod Podge, then stamps, stencils, sprays and ink.  I had this going in a completely different direction originally - a totally different design that had no place for flowers.  But, after modifying these flowers a little bit with liquid pearls and some ink and spray, I changed my mind and did a complete overhaul of the page.  I hope you like what you see!  Enjoy the rest of your day!

Fierce...

What can I say?  It's been a productive couple of days in the scrapbooking department!  LOL  I'm double-posting again today...I hope that you checked out my mixed media layout!

For this post, I'm sharing a layout I made for my first try on one of the awesome challenges over at Scrap Around the World.  I love that they give you a mood board that you can interpret in any way you wish.  The only requirement?  Be inspired by something on the board.  Here is the board I worked off of.

I was inspired by the awesome paint/gelato look in the chevron image on the top left, and the quote on the bottom left.  Had a blast putting this one together.  The great thing about working with gelatos and wet backgrounds is that you don't have to pile on the embellishments.  Here is what I came up with.

As always, I am appreciative of the feedback and comments.  Thanks for stopping by!!

My first TRUE mixed media layout...

I've been wanting to to try an art journal type of mixed media page for quite some time, but was never really sure how the heck they actually came together...enter Sanna Lippert's tutorial for Scrap Around the World...I love Sanna's tutorials.  I always learn something from them and they inspire me to try new things and grow my technique arsenal.  Of course, I sit there and watch and think to myself "How the hell does she make it look so EASY?!"  Here is her tutorial which inspired me to try a page of my own.

And here is my first attempt at a real mixed media (as in, I pulled every wet and dry medium I own out of my stash lol) layout.  There is gesso, modeling paste (light and regular), stamps, sprays, ink, rub-ons, acrylic paint, cardboard, burlap, washi tape, scrap paper, etc., etc.  If you can name it, it's stuck on this page. ;) I am absolutely thrilled with the end result.

Here is my base layer, over gesso and adhered with Mod Podge.  I just gathered up a bunch of random scraps and stuck them on there.

Then I just started layering.  And layering.  And misting.  And layering.  And stenciling.  And layering.   Oh...and did I mention the layering? LOL

Definitely going to try this type of a layout more often.  This one will go up on the wall in my craft area, to remind me to try new things.  Thanks for looking.  I hope this will inspire some of you to give this type of layout a go too!  Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
